FAV : Festival des Architectures Vives 5th edition
“..The Festival of the Lively Architecture aims at raising awareness of the general audience to the wide domain of the architecture. It attempts not only to advance the work of a young generation of architects, landscape painters, town planners, sociologists and scenographers but also to make discover unexpected urban territories. The project that the Festival of the Lively Architectures proposes here in Montpellier will take place again in various places, and will be transformed into itinerary, a sort of architectural discovery in heart of the city.
This itinerary connects mansions and courtyards, which deprived are only visible for the inhabitants. Two aims are fixed. On one hand, to open to the inhabitants of Montpellier, the time(weather) of the festival these symbolic sites. On the other hand, thanks to the intervention of the teams of creators to present a specific work for each place and reveal an intimate relation between contemporary architecture and heritage site.
Of a surprising urban dimension, mansions propose places with diverse characteristics and open the field to quite so rich and varied explorations. This study proposes about ten sites where can be developed lively architecture according to the thematic Between shadow and light chosen for this 5th edition of the Festival of the Lively Architecture in Montpelier.
These short-lived realizations of small scale, conceived in a simple and evident way will take place during the festival. Without physical traces, the Festival tries to mark the spirits and to engage a global thinking upon architecture and its development in an existing urban context; it takes place before and in preview of a foreseen transformation….”
Biancostudio was selected to take part to the festival with the installation called “Chasseur d’ ombre”
“..A good architecture is mainly made by two components: shadows and lights.
“L’architecture est un jeu savant, correct et magnifique des volumes assemblés sous la lumière”
The installation is made of 150 paperboard recycled modules. Each module is a box
50x50x50cm, one face of it is missing and replaced with a white paperboard.
This white surface is folded into several manners and takes different shapes.
According to the inclination of the folded surface there are different lights-shadows effects.
These modules are assembled together into a grid, following a specific mesh design that
creates a rhythmic surface. The modular system creates a circular space (8m diameter, 3m
height) that can be crossed.
Some faces of the boxes are colored or reflective in order to generate many kind of suggestions.
Moreover the users are invited to interact with it, by folding or molding the white paperboards
and putting them into the boxes. So they can play directly with the shadows created.
The idea is to urge people to feel the experience of shadows hunting.
Everybody can play “entre ombre et lumière”,
Then the lights turn off and the shadows disappear.
